Srinagar, Jan 01 (KNO): Senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Khursheed Alam on Wednesday voiced sharp criticism of the government’s 'indifference' toward key issues affecting the sentiments of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Alam, while speaking to the media as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) stated that the government had received a strong mandate, but that its actions so far have failed to inspire confidence. “The government has made promises during election rallies and in their manifesto. The people expect them to deliver. While we believe in giving the government time, their lack of seriousness is already evident,” Alam said. He also highlighted the importance of two historically significant dates for Jammu and Kashmir – December 5, Sheikh Abdullah’s birth anniversary, and July 13, Martyrs' Day. “These dates symbolize our history and the sacrifices made against autocracy and for justice. The decision to exclude them from the official holiday calendar reflects the government’s disregard for public sentiments,” Alam said, adding that the issue demonstrates the government’s lack of seriousness in addressing the region’s cultural and historical identity. Alam urged the administration to reconsider its stance and align its actions with the promises made to the people. “We are watching, and so are the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The government must act responsibly and respect the aspirations of the public,” he said—(KNO)
